Building a Career Abroad: Ankit’s Story as a Pharmacist in Germany
In the landscape of skilled migration, every professional’s path is unique. While much attention is often given to the migration of nurses, the demand in Germany extends far beyond, covering pharmacists, doctors, therapists, and many other essential professionals. Among them is Ankit, a pharmacist from India, whose story highlights how language learning, persistence, and strong employer support can pave the way to recognition and integration in Germany.
Interview with Ankit N.
Author: Why did you start learning German?
Ankit: To be honest, I started learning German because my best friend, Prashant, encouraged me to. We did our bachelor’s degree together, and he was very interested in Germany from the very beginning. His enthusiasm sparked my own interest, and I eventually began learning the language as well. After reaching level A2, I found myself genuinely enjoying the process. One language institute in New Delhi played a significant role in helping me through this journey.
Author: What was it like applying for a job in Germany?
Ankit: Applying for a job in Germany from India can be quite a tiresome process. However, if someone has a good command of the German language, with persistence and networking, it is definitely possible. The key is to prepare well and do thorough research before applying—understanding the requirements and expectations of the German job market is crucial. Language skills are the most important factor, in my opinion.
Author: What kind of support did you receive from your employer during the training and recognition period?
Ankit: I consider myself very fortunate to have found a friendly and supportive employer. He is extremely knowledgeable about the recognition process and has guided me through every necessary step. Under his mentorship, I am not only learning a lot professionally but also integrating quickly into German society. He continues to support me during my recognition process, and I’m truly grateful for his help.
Author: How are you managing learning and using the German language at work?
Ankit: At work, I use German every day, which has been incredibly helpful in improving my language skills. I’m constantly learning new words and phrases, and German is beginning to come more naturally to me. This practical exposure has been essential for my growth.
Author: Now that you’re working in Germany, what has changed in how you see your profession and daily life?
Ankit: Since I started working in Germany, I’ve come to appreciate the excellent work-life balance. My colleagues are very friendly and always willing to teach and support me. There’s a strong sense of discipline and respect in the workplace. I’ve also noticed that pharmacists are held in high regard here—people truly trust their pharmacists, and the profession is seen as an integral part of society. This has deepened my respect for the field and made me proud to be part of it.
